Skating for Hope – WHS vs. St John’s Alumni Hockey Game

With hockey season upon us, we thought it would be fun to look back to a great skating and hockey fundraising event we covered a couple months ago at College of the Holy Cross Hart Center.  Skating for Hope is an annual 24-hour skate-a-thon fundraiser, hosted by Westborough native Dave McGrath, which includes skating, hockey games and lots of other great activities.  The event benefits cancer patients (and their caregivers) with costs associated with housing, transportation, and other necessities of daily living. The skate-a-thon raises money for the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Worcester, MA and, in addition to monetary donations, has provided the Lodge with new televisions, a massage chair, and help with expensive heating costs. To date, Skating for Hope has raised over $50,000 through the generosity of caring individuals and local companies who sponsor the event.  For more information on Skating for Hope, visit: www.skatingforhope.org

Dave McGrath, a Westborough native, is a graduate of Boston College and St John’s High School and hosted his 5th annual Skating for Hope in September 2015.  The fundraising event started off at a smaller rink and is now hosted at College of the Holy Cross.  A highlight of the event features an alumni hockey game between St. John’s and Westborough High School. Matt Vautour and John McGrath serve up the play-by-play in the video below:
