Westborough TV is pleased to share another interview with a former student at The Lyman School for Boys. Jeff Poole from Westborough TV, recently sat down with a former student of the school, Leonard Danylieko, who is now a retired electrician and attended the Lyman School in the early 1960s. Mr Danylieko reached out to us after viewing the Rodney Horton interview with Bob Brown. It was important to him to be able to tell his story, watch the show here:
These photos are of Mr. Danylieko standing outside Wachusetts Cottage, where he lived while attending the school. This building is now part of the Mass Tech Collaborative.

Thanks for sharing your experiences at Lyman Leonard. Bought back memories of my time there, in overlook cottage and working the cafeteria like you. I was there around 1957. By the way, I think the Germanic couple who oversaw overlook were named Hamer, pronounced (Hay-mer)?
I also was at Lyman school but before that I was at Oakdale reformatory ,classification was at the youth service board in Roslindale. I was at Lyman school just before they were closing they brought the girls up there from Lancaster so they had a cottage for girls on the grounds, I happened to be selected to go to a dance at the girls cottage one night. We saw movies together, went to classes together. And I was in a program in Topsfield and Shirley Mass with female offenders when Lyman school was shut down. I went to dinner at the commissioner’s house and spent time with his family. Lyman school was a great help I have a lot of good memories of that school. Very little bad memories.
