It was cold, but it was worth it! Westborough TV was there to cover this year’s Polar Plunge Fundraiser sponsored by In Your Shoes, a giving circle, with support from Westborough Connects, on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Watch a clip from the fun community event here!
At the Polar Plunge, individuals and teams “plunged” into the chilly waters of Lake Chauncy to show their support for In Your Shoes and Westborough Connects. Participants, volunteers, spectators, and The Polar Bear “Orson” from Polar Beverages, were all on-hand to encourage the spectators and plungers. Everyone enjoyed refreshments, sponsored by Wegmans, Zumba by Martha Convers, and a bonfire with s’mores!
Participants were encouraged to dress in costume and prizes were given out in categories like “Most Spirited”, “Best Costume” and “Highest Fundraiser” for the most money raised as an individual/team.
In Your Shoes, a giving circle, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Westborough working to contribute time, talents, and monetary resources to those who live and/or work in our community who are in need. “The Polar Plunge fundraiser is a fun way to get the community out to support two great local organizations,” said event organizer and In Your Shoes Co-Founder and Co-President, Terry Gavin. “As we have done in the past, 50% of all monies raised is given to a Westborough organization. We have chosen Westborough Connects as the recipient of our fundraiser this year.”
The event had a few dozen brave plungers and for people who wished to participate but stay dry, a couple dozen “Virtual Plungers” as well. Westborough Fire and EMS dive team members were on-hand to ensure everyone’s safety.
