On the Sidelines – George “Butch” Byrd – Life in Watervliet NY

Host Paul McGrath sat down with long time resident of Westborough, George “Butch” Byrd.

Before coming to Westborough, Butch was involved with professional football, playing for the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos. He was a five time AFL All-star and is in the the LaSalle Institute Athletic Hall of Fame, Boston University Sports Hall of Fame, Albany Capital District Hall of Fame and named to the All-Time Buffalo Bills Silver Anniversary Team in 1984.

    In the late 1960’s, growing up in Watervliet, George’s Bills career achievements were closely followed by football-mad kids like me. Made me happy to stumble upon this interview!

    I’ve known him since I was 13 and wish I could say hello to him again! I’m 80 now and he is a couple years older than me. Super nice, polite, gentlemen.
