TBT: Everything Is Awesome in Westborough

We still wish this would happen! From April 1, 2015: Westborough Selectmen unanimously approved the long-anticipated advertising program for the Westborough water tank off Route 9 on Frieberg Parkway. The highly visible landmark was first suggested as possible income stream for the town a few years back by Westborough Selectman Ian Johnson.

Westborough Town officials met with Lego Systems of Enfield, CT and signed a 20 year lease on the entire water tower. (see artist rendition)

“The tower will be a replica of an actual LEGO mini figure head. Not only will this be a lucrative income stream for our Town, Westborough will become a landmark location that will boost our economy and offset our tax burden.”

The giant tank on Route 9 will be fitted with a large vinyl wrap bearing the likeness of the bright yellow LEGO people’s heads.

Originally, the agreement also called for the renovated Westborough Town Hall tower to be outfitted with a lego mini-figure head on the cupula but that met with some resistance from local commissions who felt the Lego head replica was not in keeping with the character of the downtown Historic District.

The Lego tank project will start on April 1st, 2015 and is expected to be finished this summer. It will be viewable from many locations along Route 9 and plans are in the works for additional funding if the Town agrees to outfitting the head with the myriad of hats, sunglasses, hair and other headwear that have made mini figures so popular with fans young and old.

Emmet Brickowski, a 4th grade student from Mill Pond School, was thrilled with the news. “I think it’s awesome! Everything is awesome!”

Westborough TV wants to wish everyone a Happy April Fools’ Day.

While the Lego Movie did not get the recognition it deserved, perhaps THIS video will. Should George be nominated for an Oscar or an Emmy?
