On February 11, 2020, BFF Luncheon guest speaker Louise Mawhinney shared her story on rising in business and reviving the discontinued candy bar, Sky Bar.
Considered one of the greatest comebacks since the Sox beat the Yankees in the 2004 playoffs, the iconic Sky Bar Candy Bar is back in production and for sale.
New England Confectionary Company (NECCO), one of the oldest candy companies in the country went out of business in 2018. Fans of the quirky and unique candy bar assumed it was gone forever so they frantically bought the remaining stock online. It was Louise Mawhinney, the owner of Duck Soup, a gourmet food store in Sudbury, who didn’t let the candy disappear.
Louise Mawhinney is a former biotech CFO originally from Scotland. She had never made candy before and she didn’t have any retail experience either when she purchased Duck Soup in 2014. Clearly the “Sky” is the not limit when it comes to this local entrepreneur.
